This study purports to develop indicators in order to measure the happiness status of Korean youth. Also, this study intends to build so-called Korean Youth Happiness Index(KYHI, hereafter) using those previously developed indicators. Broadly speaking, this study followed three steps. First, the question of “what is the conceptual scheme of happiness itself” was asked and the extensive review on domestic as well as foreign literature has been done. The authors addressed such issues as “what is happiness in general?”, “what kinds of indicators have been used in previous literature?”, and “what are the components of people’s happiness?”. The second step was to develop concrete indicators for KYHI and finally the construction of KYHI was followed using national survey data. While acknowledging the inexistence of perfectly exhaustive and mutually-exclusive classification of sub-areas of any abstract concept, the authors argue that measuring the happiness of Korean youth can be achieved by indirectly measuring the satisfaction level of the following six sub-areas: economic well-being, satisfaction with self, safety, academic achievement, social relationships, and emotional well-being. Forty indicators from six sub-areas have been developed and the final results of this study include the scores by areas, the changes in area scores by ages, the individual weights of each sub-area upon KYHI, and the KYHI scores by groups.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
